Meet: Thursday mornings in the car park, Grenoside Community Hall, Main Street, Grenoside, S35 8PN in time to start walking at 10 o'clock.
Day: Thursdays
Time: 9.50 in time to start walking at 10am
Meet: in the Grenoside Community Hall car park off Main Street Grenoside S35 8PN
We assemble at 9:50am for a 10:00am start, and walk for 50-75 minutes depending on the weather. Everyone sets off together but, part way round, walkers are given the choice of extending the walk or returning to the car park, so potentially there are two walks each week, a shorter option and a longer one.
Our walks utilise the public footpaths in Greno Woods and Wheata Woods and around Grenoside village, providing an insight into the areas industrial and agricultural past whilst enjoying the spectacular views and physical exercise, but also socially interacting with a friendly group of people.
The Sheffield Wildlife Trust, Grenoside Conservation Group and Sheffield City Council are responsible for the management of the woodlands, which are of an ancient origin and also archaeological importance with some 12 hectares designated as a scheduled monument. Sites of interest range from Roman-British settlements and field systems, post medieval quarry pits and World War Two bomb craters.
After the walk everyone returns to the Community Centre for a cuppa in the downstairs meeting room so they can carry on socialising.
Buses: on Main Street: 35, 135 and M92.
Parking: The car park of Grenoside Community Centre, off Main Street, Grenoside.
Toilets: There are currently no toilets for walkers on this walk.
