Day: Thursdays
Time: 9.50 in time to start walking at 10am
Meet: in the Grenoside Community Hall car park off Main Street Grenoside S35 8PN
This walk was amongst the first of Sheffield's Wellbeing Walks. It was established in 2000 (along with Firth Park and Pitsmoor walks)
We assemble at 9:50am for a 10:00am start, and walk for 50-75 minutes depending on the weather. Each week, as well as the main walk, a slower, shorter walk is offered. a
Our walks utilise the public footpaths in Greno Woods and Wheata Woods as well as those in Grenoside village itself. The Sheffield Wildlife Trust, Grenoside Conservation Group and Sheffield City Council are responsible for the management of the woodlands, which are of ancient origin and archaeological importance with some 12 hectares designated as a scheduled monument. Sites of interest range from Roman-British settlements and field systems, post medieval quarry pits and World War Two bomb craters.
After the walk everyone returns to the Community Centre for a cuppa in the downstairs meeting room so they can carry on socialising.
Buses: Various buses travel along Main Street. Visit the Travel S Yorkshire website and use the Journey Planner and Timetable finder Apps for up-to-date information. Alternatively, phone the Traveline on 08009520002.
