We are a small group who welcome new members or visitors from other walks. Walks are 3/4hr to 1hr in length, walkers choosing which group that they are comfortable to walk with. Striders or strollers usually walk into the Shirebrook valley. Our less able/wheelchair group walk to the local park or to the 'village'.

The Shirebrook valley lies between Woodhouse and Hackenthorpe and is almost hidden from the road network. The many paths in the valley mean we walk a different route each time, the center point being the pond. The old tip has been landscaped in the past few years giving more variety to the walks. In the springtime we walk into Shirecliffe valley which is full of bluebells. Any walk into the valley means we have to come out again up a fairly steep path we call the horse path as the surrounding fields are home to horses who are very happy to chew on the carrots walkers give them. The valley is a good source of wild fruits which vary from season to season.

All walks end back at the Salvation Army Community Centre where we enjoy a drink and a biscuit and plenty of chat.

Over the years this walk has celebrated the 100th Birthday of two of its regular walkers! In 2010 Tom received the all-important Birthday card from Queen Elizabeth and in December 2015 Rose turned 100. 

 

Buses:    No 30, 30a, 52 and 52a. Alight Cross Street.

Parking: The library end of Skelton Lane is the nearest for parking but note the one way system now operating.

Toilets:   There are toilet facilities in the Community Centre
