Day: Tuesdays
Time: 1.20 in time to start walking at 1.30pm
Meet: Outside Abbeyfield Park, Pitsmoor (off Burgreave Road), S4 7AY
The Pitsmoor walk is one of our most established having started in 2000. Until the Covid lockdown walkers met in the doctor's surgery. They have been meeting at Abbeyfield Park since walks resumed after Covid.
Our leaders offer a choice of two walks each week. The easy walk is in Abbeyfield Park itself, on mainly level paths and there are plenty of benches available for rest stops if needed. This small but lovely heritage park is home to a unique collection of trees including the wonderful ghost birch pictured above. Our longer walk lasts approximately an hour and explores nearby heritage woodland and other local green spaces.
After the walk everyone gathers in Abbeyfield House to enjoy tea, biscuits and conversation.
Buses: Numerous buses pass Abbeyfield Park as they travel on Burgreave Road on their way to or from the Northern General Hospital. Visit the Travel South Yorkshire website and use the Journey Planner and Timetable finder Apps for up-to date details. Alternatively, phone the Traveline on 08009520002.
Parking: Street-parking is available on Abbeyfield Road and there's an entrance into the park directly off this road.
Toilets: Abbeyfield House has toilets which walkers may use.
