Meet: In Newfield Green Clinic (opposite Gleadless Medical Centre), 541 Gleadless Road, S2 2BS
The Gleadless Wellbeing Walk was established in 2001. Initially walkers met at the bus stop and socialised after the walk in Newfield Green clinic but in 2018 they moved to the Terry Wright Community Centre. The centre is currently being refurbished so walkers are now temporarily back at the Clinic where staff have made them very welcome. Walkers generally set off in two groups (a short, flatish walk for those with limited mobility, and a medium length walk for those who can walk a bit further. After the walks we meet up together in the clinic at Newfield Green for tea and biscuits. A nominal charge is made to cover the cost of renting the room but, as always, the walks themselves are free.
Occasionally one or more groups of walkers catch a bus to another part of the city to walk before catching the bus back again.
It's very rare that we don't meet to walk. Rain, snow and wind don't generally put us off although we may decide to spend less time walking and more time talking back in the warmth of the community room socialising! However, we definitely don't walk if conditions seem dangerous, for instance, if the footpaths are icy.
