The ‘village’ of Stannington was built on the hillside above the Loxley and Rivelin valleys and walks in this area are anything but flat! However, the village is criss-crossed with foot paths, snickets and greenspaces and provides a very attractive area in which to walk, with the added bonus of stunning views. Someone in Stannington is a knitting supremo and the post box outside the Spar shop is becoming well known for it's wonderful woollen decorations. The picture below was taken one glorious sunning Tuesday morning in October 2022.
The experienced leaders on this walk know the area well and are able to change the route to suit the ability of their walkers and to provide a varied programme of walks. Before the Covid lockdown all walks ended back in the TARA office with a cup of tea or coffee and a natter. The facility there isn’t huge so the atmosphere was cosy and homely. We are working on how to facilitate the social side of this walk in the new 'normal'. In every case though, new walkers are always made very welcome.
Unfortunately, because of the hills, this walk is unsuitable for wheelchairs.
